Wall
The external walls of all the other building envelope structure have the largest area in the whole building, therefore they need the most thorough thermal protection. Uninsulated exterior walls are cold during the winter season and can be a ground for the condensation and mold formation. These effects are very dangerous and have a negative impact on the health of children in particular.
Thermal insulation of exterior walls must be performed outside the existing walls for optimal effect and in order to extend the building’s life term. Also, using the outer insulation, it is possible to radically change the architectural view of the building by applying appropriate finishing layers.
When choosing thermal insulating material for insulation of external walls, please remember, that thermal insulation is never used alone, but only as part of a particular facade system. Therefore, it is also important to choose the required system components recommended by the manufacturer.
Please, note, that the total thickness of the thermal insulation layer for external walls should be at least 100 mm.
Particular attention should be paid to combustibility characteristics of the thermal insulation material in terms of material’s permitted scope of use. Thus, according to normative requirements, combustible thermal insulation materials can only be used on buildings up to 9 floors, but non-flammable – without any restrictions. It should also be remembered that according to the Ukrainian norms and standards it is forbidden to perform external insulation of an individual dwelling in an apartment building. Do not breach the law, together with other co-owners do insulation of the whole building at once!
